The Dark Knight Rises! (hehehehe)
November 9th, 2010 by Chris NewmanChristopher Nolan Announces New Batman Movie Title; Debunks Riddler
How awesome is this news? Christopher Nolan has announced that the title for the next, and last Batman film (in this particular trilogy) to be “The Dark Knight Rises”. *snicker* Okay, not as amazing as we’d hoped, but the film surely won’t disappoint. Nolan also stated that the Riddler will not be in this new movie. Well, there’s that.
As a man young twentysomething male that has grown tired of Marvel butchering its property, I have turned to DC and Warner Bros. to give me my comic book adaptations! Since I have never followed or even identified with any DC character, it is pretty easy for me to be satisfied with most DC-based adaptations. However, I believe Nolan’s Batman franchise to be the exception; whether or not you know Batman, you will like these movies. Nolan’s Batman is realistic, intelligent, and dark; easily the first comic adaptation to be taken seriously.
The Joker, The Riddler, and the Apprentice
After the death of Heath Ledger, Nolan said he would not reprise the Joker. Rumors swirled about The Riddler being the next villain, and when ‘shopped images of actress Kristen Bell as Harley Quinn (the Joker’s apprentice) hit the web, people went nuts. Bell definitely has the chops to play a maniacal villain, and Harley seems like a natural choice for villain in the next movie, if only to have a role similar to the Scarecrow’s in The Dark Knight.
After watching Inception this summer, the Rebellion Brass decided that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be a perfect fit for the Riddler; he has extraordinary talent, and if you’ve seen Inception? Hallway scene, ’nuff said. The internet apparently felt the same way about Gordon-Levitt, and has even ‘shopped him on to Jim Carrey’s Riddler from Tim Burton’s Batman Forever. Maybe this is why Nolan decided to nix the character altogether.
Catwoman
No, not the gorgeous and Rebellion-approved Halle Berry-Catwoman, but a brand-new one. (For the record, Halle Berry is Rebellion-endorsed, not the box office disaster, Catwoman.) I first met/fell in love with Catwoman when I saw Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, in which she was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer. To me, she is the end-all be-all of Catwomanry. For now. If all goes according to my plan, Charlize Theron will be cast as the new Selina Kyle. She’s a serious actress, and displayed some mad moves in Aeon Flux.
Thoughts?
What do you think of these casting choices? Are there any villains you’d like to see pummel Batman in The Dark Knight Rises?
