Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Announced, Full Roster “Exposed”
July 20th, 2011 by Chris NewmanI Want to Take You(r wallet) for a Ride
Today, Capcom unveiled its followup to the *2011* game, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. This didn’t really surprise many people, seeing as how Capcom has released three versions of Street Fighter IV in as many years, and milks gamers for all they’re worth with the ridiculous costume packs for that title.
This new version of MVC3 will include 12 new characters, 8 new stages, and new modes including the oft-demanded Spectator Mode. Immediately revealed with the announcement were characters Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Firebrand and Strider. You can also see a “new” stage in the snow covered Kattlelox Island stage. Hopefully “alternate versions of previously existing stages” isn’t the direction Capcom is going with this.
Now, right about this point, I was curious of the title, but not completely interested. The game lost me when Jill Valentine was released and I saw the obvious lack of respect for the character. (Wrong voice actor! Weird Julia Voth/generic face hyrid! Stiff animations! Feral nature that completely rules out BSAA, Resident Evil 3, or S.T.A.R.S. costumes!) I’ve often said that the game doesn’t feature enough female fighters, and Capcom revealing four new, fairly boring male combatants doesn’t give me much to look forward to. But wait, Chris! There’s still eight slots left! They could all be GIRLZ! Right as I was thinking that, I was informed by Vegivo that the entire 12-person roster was leaked by none other than Capcom itself. Apparently, artwork of eight unannounced fighters was found on Capcom-Unity.com, and the cat was out of the bag. To my absolute delight, Nemesis from RE3 is now in the game. To my utter dismay, the other seven characters are dudes and I personally wouldn’t have picked any of them. Fanboys can finally exhale, as Phoenix Wright has made the cut. (OBJECTION!) The others are: for Marvel: Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Rocket Raccoon (Wha–), and Nova; For Capcom: Frank West (insert obligatory “he has covered wars, you know”), and Vergil from the Devil May Cry series.
Fine, new version. Whatever. But here is what I want to know: why is the roster SO unbalanced? 37 male fighters to 13 female? Does that seem right? Hell, Capcom could’ve made the 12 new fighters female and it would have evened the score! I’ve never been one to play as a male character unless it is mandated by the game. (I will play as them, just not extensively.) Be it Chun-Li or Sheva Alomar, I have always preferred the faster, flashier moves from the ladies. Is that so wrong?
WHAT IS THIS I DONT EVEN
I don’t know much else about the game other than what I’ve written here. It’s entirely possible that the “leaked” eight characters are total fakes, and that Capcom is epic-trolling everyone as payback for the MVC3 leaks. I’d put money on that if I weren’t so closely attached to it.
UPDATE: Capcom confirmed that the eight “leaked” characters are indeed legit, but refused to comment further, saying that they’d rather focus on the four lame-asses that were previously announced. And on further pissing off Megaman fans.
Okay, I said that, but you get it, right? Yeah, you get it.
Oh, and by the way: Cammy, R. Mika, Sheva Alomar, Tiffany Lords (Rival Schools), Hinata Wakaba (Rival Schools), Natsu Ayuhara (Rival Schools), Kitty Pryde (with Lockheed), Rogue, Ms. Marvel, Black Widow, Elektra, and Emma Frost. You’re welcome, Capcom.
